Elon Musk’s X sues New York to block social media hate speech law

 

X Corp, under the ownership of Elon Musk, is challenging a New York state law requiring social media companies to disclose their content moderation practices regarding hate speech and extremism. In its complaint, X argues that the law compels the disclosure of "highly sensitive and controversial speech" protected under the First Amendment of the US Constitution. The company contends that deciding what content is acceptable on social media platforms is a matter of considerable debate and should not be a role for the government. This legal action is just one in a series of lawsuits X has filed against US states, citing concerns about free speech limitations.
